The schools for artistic stage dance and ballet schools combine the most diverse types of artistic dance such as classical ballet, jazz dance, modern dance, hiphop, flamenco, character dance, tap dance, contemporary dance, creative dance, expressive dance and many more and are to be recognised as vocational preparation schools, even if they operate in the private sector. Just like art and music schools, they have a very broad educational mandate and also teach European cultural heritage. They get their pupils moving not only physically but also mentally, teaching body control, body awareness, expression, musicality and rhythm, spatial awareness, social, mindful and respectful cooperation, self-responsibility, self-confidence and self-assurance, trust, responsibility and the ability to work in a team.

The closure of dance schools in 2020-2021 due to the pandemic will have severe economic consequences, both for the structures themselves and for their (often freelance) staff. In this context, the dance schools in the state of Bremen have formed an informal alliance to exchange ideas and network: the AG Tanzschulen.
