AMS! is a stage for long-form improvisation in Bremen. Inspired by the audience, unique moments arise that can never be repeated—sometimes humorous, sometimes serious, sometimes complex, sometimes simple, sometimes banal, sometimes profound. Those already familiar with improv theater will notice: we are different! We celebrate long-form improv in our own style, strongly inspired by Chicago and New York.
Accessibility: Wheelchair spaces must be reserved in advance via email (info@ams-theater.de). A ramp is available (70 cm). Unfortunately, there is no wheelchair-accessible restroom. We are happy to provide information on sensory stimuli or content triggers for individual events.
Seating capacity: 32 seats in the performance room, no foyer, bar with drinks available in the performance room, entry 10 minutes before the performance.
Blaumeier-Atelier

Travemünder Straße 7a
28219 Bremen
https://www.blaumeier.de/
The Blaumeier-Atelier in Bremen offers artistic projects for people with and without disabilities, as well as for people with and without psychiatric experience. It is a place of lived inclusion, unconventional art, and a champion of diversity. The art project originated in the 1980s after the closure of the long-term psychiatric clinic Kloster Blankenburg. For nearly 40 years, over 250 people per week have participated in artistic offerings in theater, mask theater, music, painting, photography, and other disciplines. All courses are free leisure activities. Participation is open from age 18, with special programs also available for students.
With events in Bremen, across Germany, and internationally, the Blaumeier-Atelier continuously delights its audience. Based on the interests and abilities of the artists, theater projects, art exhibitions, concerts, and readings are created. Artistically, Blaumeier addresses both broad societal discourses such as boundaries, justice, or gender, and personal aspects of these topics. In addition to current debates like participation, work, and self-determination, the focus is on the joy of the activity: working together in the studio, rehearsing, and performing on stage or in the gallery shapes the lives of the artists and forms the heart of the work of all staff.
Regular performances take place in its own theater hall with up to 100 seats. Blaumeier-Atelier also performs in theaters, concert halls, and regional events. Exhibitions and readings are organized in galleries and other spaces. The mask theater group primarily performs outdoors at festivals or street events.
The courtyard offers seating, and on the day of the 2nd Long Night of Stages, pretzels are available. There is a bar with drinks.
Accessibility:
All event spaces at Blaumeier-Atelier are fully accessible. To provide wheelchair users with suitable seating, prior registration is requested.
Sign language: Selected events are accompanied by sign language. Sign language availability is noted for each event.

Since the major move in 2022, Hall 1 in the Tabakquartier has been the new home of the Bremer Philharmoniker. Not only can the orchestra now rehearse under optimal acoustic conditions, but audiences can also enjoy concerts in this exceptional space.
Regular events here include Sunday morning chamber music concerts and the PhilX series, where experimentation and surprise are part of the concept. The Tabakquartier also hosts the new talk-and-concert format

Bremer shakespeare company
bremer shakespeare company
Schulstraße 26
28199 Bremen
['URL']https://www.shakespeare-company.de[/URL]
The ensemble of the bremer shakespeare company sees the evening at the theater as a joint celebration with the audience. At the heart of our artistic work are productions of William Shakespeare’s plays, which at the same time inspire us to realize our own artistic ideas and create new dramas on stage—what we call our “playwrights’ workshop.”
Our organizational structure is extraordinary in Bremen and Germany’s cultural scene: the ensemble manages itself. This means there is no artistic director and no top-down hierarchy where decisions about programming or casting are handed down. Instead, all decisions are negotiated together, on equal footing, and made by consensus. The same principle applies to the audience: there are no “better” or “worse” seats—every visitor is welcomed as a guest, and we rely on their imagination, their joy in thinking along, and their willingness to empathize during the performance.
William Shakespeare is the most valuable resource of our theater. We stage the images of the world that Shakespeare sketched for us, interpret the characters he created, and draw from this vast and substantial imagination. His plays tell of the possibility of mixing the fantastic with the traditional to create something new.
In over 35 years, the company has staged 66 Shakespeare productions and 15 plays developed in the playwrights’ workshop, which emerged from collaborations between directors, actors, and writers. In addition, numerous dramas by classical and contemporary authors have been produced, many of them German premieres. Since 1989, the company has been based in its own theater building, the Theater am Leibnizplatz, part of the Oberschule am Leibnizplatz complex in Bremen’s Neustadt district. The tram stop is named after the theater. Collaboration with the Oberschule am Leibnizplatz is just one of many ways in which the company works with and for students.

Built in 1933 as a dance and excursion venue and later used after World War II as a U.S. officers’ casino and jazz club, the building was taken over by the City of Bremen in the mid-1970s. In 1975, the nonprofit association Bürgerhaus Weserterrassen e.V. was founded.
Since then, the venue has offered a diverse program of concerts, courses, and cultural events for all ages. Recurring highlights include the Ü-30 party

Creative courses and projects for children and adults include movement, dance, language, self-assertion, theater, and artistic design. During school holidays, award-winning creative and sports activities for children are regularly offered.
The venue also provides rental spaces for initiatives, self-help groups, democratic parties, and similar organizations.
Integrated within the Bürgerhaus is a seniors’ community center, supported by the Senator for Social Affairs. It offers a wide range of courses in movement, fitness, and dance, along with creative activities such as sewing, photography, and writing. Other programs focus on memory training and digital literacy (computers and smartphones). The in-house seniors’ theater group and choir regularly stage public performances. The “Kulturzentrum Schlachthof” was founded in 1980 following the occupation of the former slaughterhouse site. The goal was to preserve the buildings and open them as a space for the independent cultural scene. This mission continues today, driven by the conviction that cultural diversity is an essential part of a vibrant democratic society.
As a socio-cultural center, our task is to create and maintain spaces for culture and to open them for a wide variety of cultural activities. With our workshops, we offer experimental opportunities in artistic and media fields such as theater, music, film, audio drama, and work on our in-house magazine. In the spirit of fostering social diversity, everyone is invited to participate in culture and develop their own creative voice.

Since 2011,
Mensch, Puppe! has presented a wide-ranging program of puppet, visual, and object theater, along with drama, musicals, readings, and concerts — evening performances for adults and afternoon shows for children. Puppeteer Jeannette Luft, actress Claudia Spörri, and puppeteer Leo Mosler set out to explore puppet theater — one of the oldest and most fascinating performing arts — in all its complexity.
In addition to adaptations of literary novels and classic plays such as Fallada’s
Little Man, What Now?, Bram Stoker’s
Dracula, or Hermann Hesse’s
Siddhartha, presented through the diverse methods of puppet theater, the ensemble constantly seeks new artistic challenges. Collaborations have emerged with institutions including the Kunsthalle Bremen, Bremer Philharmoniker, bremer shakespeare company, botanika bremen, Universum Bremen, and Bremen Cathedral (St. Petri Dom).
Every year, families, school classes, and kindergartens attend performances. Children, parents, teachers, and educators enjoy lovingly staged productions. For many children,
Mensch, Puppe! offers their very first formative encounter with theater — a responsibility the ensemble takes on with great care.
Beyond its own stage,
Mensch, Puppe! performs at venues such as Botanika, open-air at the Focke Museum and the Licht-Luft-Bad, at Universum Bremen, and with the Bremer Philharmoniker. The ensemble also regularly tours and takes part in puppet theater festivals across Germany.

For 29 years, it has served as the permanent home of Schnürschuh Theater. The theater hall has a seating capacity of

www.zentrum-fuer-kunst.de
The
Zentrum für Kunst in Bremen’s Tabakquartier is a new cultural hub that has enriched the city’s independent art and cultural scene since its opening in 2023. Spread across approximately 5,500 square meters in a former industrial hall, it forms a vibrant campus for art, performance, and social interaction. The center combines work and presentation spaces that provide professional conditions for artists while offering audiences new perspectives on contemporary culture.
The center houses
two theater halls with backstage areas. The larger hall accommodates up to 199 spectators, while the smaller hall holds around 125. Both spaces are flexible and used for theater, dance, music, performance, and cross-disciplinary projects. The venue also includes rehearsal rooms, an audiovisual studio, and spacious foyer areas that serve as meeting points before, during, and after events.
A core feature is the
atelier floor, offering workspaces for 40–50 artists. Here, painting, sculpture, media art, installations, and interdisciplinary projects are created. Through residency and grant programs, artists can access temporary spaces and develop their work in close dialogue with colleagues and audiences. Regular “Open Studios” invite the public to gain insight into artistic processes and engage directly with the artists.
The Zentrum für Kunst functions as a
platform for the independent scene, providing infrastructure, creative freedom, and an open house that accommodates both experimental formats and larger productions or festivals. In its first year alone, it hosted well over 100 events—including dance performances, theater productions, exhibitions, concerts, and discussion panels—attracting thousands of visitors.
Located in the Tabakquartier, a district blending industrial history and contemporary culture, the Zentrum für Kunst bridges past and future. It creates a space where professional artists, culture enthusiasts, and the local community are equally welcome, becoming a lively driver of Bremen’s creative development and beyond.
Accessibility:
The Zentrum für Kunst is fully
wheelchair accessible. A step-free entrance and elevator connect the ground-floor halls with the atelier floor. Accessible restrooms are available on both levels, and disabled parking is provided in the adjacent parking garage. Entry is prioritized for people with mobility limitations, and accompanying persons usually receive free admission.
